My child called home in tears! A positive pre-flight COVID test result was not good: she would not be able to fly home from Brazil as scheduled. What could a mother do?
There was a bigger problem at a wedding at Cana in Galilee: the wine ran short. The mother of Jesus was unphased; she turned to Jesus with the problem. (Jn 2:1-11)
In truth, I don't always turn to Jesus when problems arise... I get sucked into the drama of the situation. I panic, I get overwhelmed; I focus on the lack, not on the One who changes water into wine. So, I'm following Mary's example this time, and turning to Jesus: my child is in need. She's frazzled because things did not work out as planned. She has to face the frustration of rescheduling flights, of notifying her school/ coaches that she will be delayed in returning.... I turn to my Heavenly Father on her behalf, and He prompts me to remind her that He is bigger than any problem she'll ever face; that He works all things together for good for those who love Him; that He goes before her, fights for her, and will give her strength to fight. I marvel at the goodness of God: He has a whole team of people rallying to coordinate my child's trip home, to care for her needs...
At the wedding at Cana, God revealed His great love for His people through Jesus who turned the water of their need into the wine of blessing. He reveals His great love still today:
God always gives in abundance... more than enough wine, more than enough love in Jesus!
