Family blessings...

Our child, our only girl, is graduating high school this week. How did we make it to this point? I'll tell you how... it took our God-appointed village! It took the prayers and well-wishes and support and encouragement of family, of friends, of teachers, of coaches, of our Church community... so many people who spoke into the life of this child. And I humbly thank God for every one of them.
And again, I'm reminded of King David's prayer in the 2nd book of Samuel after the prophet, Nathan, relays the promise of God's favor. I imagine David was overwhelmed by the message; I imagine he was humbled; that the message caused his knees to bend, eyes to leak, and heart to turn in gratitude and praise to God. His words reach out from the pages of Scripture and tug at my own heart:
Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and said,
"Who am I, Lord God, and who are the members of my house,
that you have brought me to this point? (2 Sm 7:18)
And in confirmation, the children sang The Blessing by Chris Brown, Cody Carnes, Kari Jobe and Steven Furtick at Mass this morning...
May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
And your family and your children
And their children, and their children...
May today be a day that you catch a glimpse of God's favor on you and your family and your children; may that glimpse cause your knees to bend, eyes to leak, and heart to turn to God in praise and gratitude; and may you thank Him for all the people in your life who have been a blessing to you and your family.
