As Jesus passed by, two blind men followed him, crying out,
"Son of David, have pity on us!"
These words in Matthew 9: 27 had me picturing two blind men, stumbling, perhaps leaning on, one grasping the other; struggling, yet focused and intent on following Jesus... following and crying out for Jesus to have pity on them.
I thought about the blessing of having a companion on the journey... one to hold on to, to lean on, to look to for encouragement and support in times of weakness. Not a perfect companion... one willing to listen, to share the load; one similarly tested by life's trials, beset by all manner of struggles; one who understands the difficulty of groping, of stumbling, of falling, yet courageous enough to get up, and faithful enough to know that the source of healing is Jesus.
Friends, may we all be blessed with faithful companions along our journey; may those companions inspire us to follow Jesus. As we draw closer to Jesus this Advent, may we encourage others to follow Him too.
