Psalm 123
A song of ascents.
To you I raise my eyes,
to you enthroned in heaven.
Yes, like the eyes of servants
on the hand of their masters,
Like the eyes of a maid
on the hand of her mistress,
So our eyes are on the LORD our God,
till we are shown favor.
Show us favor, LORD, show us favor,
for we have our fill of contempt.
Our souls are more than sated
with mockery from the insolent,
with contempt from the arrogant.
2 miles! That was all I had left to complete the 9-mile Pilgrimage.
We had endured the grueling heat, praying and encouraging one another along the way. But the migraine had been brewing and nausea threatened to overwhelm me. It was all I could focus on… I was afraid I would not make it.
I heard a quiet voice say, “Look up!”
And I did. I looked up because I knew I could not accomplish the journey on my own. I was in desperate need of God’s help. As long as I kept looking up, I felt my confidence return. I did not feel great, but I knew I was going to complete the course... Jesus was leading me just as He led the Eucharistic procession to the Cathedral that day.
Let me encourage you today. Whatever it is you’re facing… I know it’s easy to focus only on the problem; to feel overwhelmed and overtaken; to feel like you’re not going to make it. Oh, the arrogance and contempt of the enemy of our souls! He is an opportunist, preying on weakness, relentlessly whispering lies, unleashing his negativity with a barrage of put-downs threatening your confidence and peace.
Look up!
Our help is in the Name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. He sees you; He knows your situation and He will provide timely help… just keep looking up. Trust and wait for His favor.
