And this is my prayer: that your love may increase ever more and more in knowledge and every kind of perception, to discern what is of value, so that you may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God. ( Phil 1:9-11 )
On this 2nd Sunday of Advent, St. Paul's prayer for the Philippians is one we could all take to heart. This time of Advent should be different, should be special... we are preparing for and anticipating our Savior's coming! Our love of God should turn our attention from frivolous pursuits to a prayerful, penitential focus on Christ; should increase our knowledge and perception, and help us discern what is of value... our true value is Jesus!
May every obstacle in our path be removed or serve to draw us closer to God: may the winding road be made straight, every valley filled, every mountain and hill made low, and every rough way made smooth... May nothing keep us from preparing our hearts for Jesus!
