There was an outpouring of love at my church the other morning as the faithful gathered to decorate for Christmas. A metal tree stand was assembled to hold tiers of beautiful poinsettia plants... a departure from our usual decoration in the vestibule, but to everyone's delight it was a spectacular display... one fit for a King!
Tomorrow, Christians around the globe will celebrate the birth of Jesus. I don't think we fully understand the magnitude of love poured out: our Savior leaving His glory in Heaven, descending to earth to be born of a Virgin to free us from slavery to sin. No fanfare, a humble birth in a stable; a baby boy in a manger surrounded by Mary and Joseph, animals and shepherds and the magi. We are so earthly- minded that we miss the glory, we forget to bow in reverence and awe...
Let all mortal flesh keep silence,
and with fear and trembling stand;
ponder nothing earthly minded,
for, with blessing in His hand,
Christ our God to earth descendeth,
our full homage to demand.
We have great reason to pause and reflect on the love our Savior offers: He gave His all for us! May we offer Christ our full homage; may we love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength.
