I stand today for others have fought and failed
and wearied and wept,
yet they got back up
put one foot forward and
finished the race.
They kept the faith so I could figure out mine.
They persevered so I could ponder,
pick and choose what's palatable,
decide that I know more
than ages of tradition, wisdom,
more than the inspired word that was vital
for training in righteousness...
Has all my free-will brooding brought me
back to the place of nakedness
hiding,
ashamed,
searching for any fleeting, floating thing
to cover my want
while there is need of only one thing,
the better part.
How well our faith fathers knew the source
of every very good thing.
