We sit in lofty towers
and presume the opinions that
matter are ours;
with our knowledge and wealth and power,
we know what's best for the plight of the hour...
more money,
more food,
safe shelter,
pills and vaccines, and
fewer offspring...
For surely, the root of poverty
is too many precious babies,
too many mouths to feed,
too many minds to educate,
too many illnesses to prevent,
and treat,
and manage long term...
And yet, the child will lead them,
a Child came to redeem them,
and out of the mouth of babes
comes praise,
comes truth,
comes love...
But if we do not believe
in the Lord of life,
or the gift of life,
there will be no child to receive...
At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, “Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.
(Matthew 18:1-5)
