"You shall love the Lord, your God,
with all your heart,
with all your being,
with all your strength,
and with all your mind,
and your neighbor as yourself." (Lk 10:27)
In priestly dress,
do you see your neighbor in distress;
ask God to clean the bloody mess,
then pass to the other side...
Or, like the Levite,
will you lean and glean your neighbor's plight,
decide on site it's not your fight
and pass on the other side...
Yet, robbers lurk and prey on either side,
they'll strip and beat
and leave a man half-dead
alone, exposed
wounds gaping, open wide...
Lord Jesus, let me see.
Help me to be
the one who moves in close,
who pours on oil and wine,
who takes the time
to tend and bind,
to care,
to take the broken where
You wait.
