They were overjoyed at seeing the star,
and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary his mother.
They prostrated themselves and did him homage.
Then they opened their treasures and offered him gifts of gold,
frankincense and myrrh.
(Mt 2:10-11)
Behold, the magi came from the east... Gentiles were diligently seeking the King of the Jews. They followed the star by God's design, drawing closer and closer to Jesus. They did not doubt; there was a sense of anticipation, they expected to find Him: they brought gifts fit for a king. These were truly wise men who left their homes in search of Jesus; who chose to follow the path that led to the Christ Child; who did not allow the lies and scheming of Herod to distract them but focused their eyes on Jesus. And finding Him, they fell on their faces, flat on the ground, face down in reverence and submission and worship. They opened their treasures and offered their gifts to the Word made flesh, the Light of the world, the King of Kings.
May we resolutely and diligently seek Jesus and find Him this year; may we open our hearts and offer Him the gift of our lives; may we submit to Him and allow His love to transform us.
