Watch and wait...

It’s the first Sunday of Advent... a period of watching and waiting for the coming of Jesus. As we prepare our homes for Christmas, it’s so easy to get distracted by the shopping, the baking and decorating. In all our preparations, sometimes we forget the reason for it all...

We have the opportunity during this Advent season to make the next 4 weeks a prayerful time; a time to draw closer to God; to wait in awe for God to “rend the heavens and come down.” Wherever we are on our faith journey, this is the time to stop wandering, to turn our hearts to God. The prophet Isaiah expresses this sentiment:

Would that you might meet us doing right, that we were mindful of you in our ways!

(Is 64:4 )

May we stay alert and watchful; may we be more mindful of God in all our activities this Advent. While we prepare our homes, let us open our hearts and make room for Jesus. May we offer him the place of honor there...
